How do I display the HOME icon
I cannot seem to get the HOME icon to display on any menu bar etc. I am using the latest version of firefox (4.0.1)

It should be located on the far right of the toolbar next to the search engines field.
If you can't see it, right click a blank part of the tab bar and go to Customize. Then drag it out of there onto the toolbar.
