When I clear cache and cookies it will work properly for awhile in Foxfire 4, but after resetting my GOOGLE preferences, it stops working properly once again. The earlier version of Foxfire did not have this problem. Also, the "similar" feature continues to work fine in Explorer.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in Safe mode:

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

@cor-el: Thanks for the tips. I followed them -- to the best of my ability -- and it did not do the trick. I went back to clearing my cookies, which allowed the "similar" feature to work, but left all of my my GOOGLE preferences at the default settings. I went back to GOOGLE preferences and added what I wanted -- one at a time -- and everything worked fine UNTIL -- UNTIL I asked to "Open search results in a new browser window." Adding that one additional preference killed the functioning of the "similar" mouseover feature. Hmmmm -- so now I have a few more questions: 1) is there some way to "fix/add" that GOOGLE search preference w/o gumming up the works? 2) Is this something that either GOOGLE and/or Firefox programmers should be made aware of? Thanks for your earlier suggestions!
