详细了解

Many hyperlinks (on many websites) are not working--they should be active, but I can't click on them--this has continued to happen after I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox.

Some text that should be active works, while other text does not. For instance, on Youtube, I can click on some features but not others. I can click on some playlists, but others behave as though they are just normal text, rather than a hyperlink. I can't (on Youtube) click in the search pane and execute a search--nothing happens when I click there. This kind of thing is happening on many different websites. I was surprised when it did not resolve when I reinstalled Firefox.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Thank you; clearing the cache and cookies didn't solve the issue, but restarting in safe mode has. I suppose the next step is to disable all of add-ons, and add back in what I need, bit by bit?

Yes.

The Yahoo! Toolbar extension has been reported to cause issues like this.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
