save browsing history for a fixed period
Latest versions of FF seem to have done away with the easily customizable option allowing control over the period for which the browsing history would be saved. The default in my case seems to be just around 1 month.
Is there any way in which it can be changed/modified?

Beginning with Firefox 4, Firefox now determines the number of pages to keep automatically using an algorithm based on the individual user's system/memory (the settings are automatic). This change was made due to users keeping large amounts of history, then complaining that Firefox operated slowly. See:

You can try an extension, like the following to save your history, though you may have overlaps or gaps depending on your patterns of browsing and how often you use the Add-on to perform backups:

i've looked forever for a solution to saving browsing history and displaying history with timestamps. firefox sync which is found in the options window under sync might be useful.
